Assign a budget (hours or fee) to project tasks 💸
One of the most requested Float features is here!
Plan and estimate your projects with more precision by adding budgets at the task level.
Imagine you're working on a client project with a $10K budget cap. With this new feature, you can assign a budget (hours or fee) to each project task. These tasks sum up to create a total project budget, which you can then allocate against, and track in Reports.
This means if you’ve set 100 hours for design and 300 for development, you’ll be able to see how much budget remains at the task and project level as you schedule team members to these tasks. Hint: if you haven't already, now's the time to set up role rates for your people!
Tasks can still be marked as billable or non-billable, with non-billable work not impacting your project's total spend.
💡 For projects with a budget by task, only billable tasks contribute to the total project budget. This helps you track the remaining budget after scheduling work. Non-billable task allocations can still be tracked in Reports to monitor internal costs. If your project is non-billable, you can set task budgets in both hours and currency.
